Biography

Melissa Mercincavage, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Mercincavage earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, and her MS and PhD in Biobehavioral Health from the Pennsylvania State University. She completed postdoctoral training in Tobacco Regulatory Science at the University of Pennsylvania.

Research Interests

Dr. Mercincavage’s research focuses on understanding reactions to tobacco products and their marketing and communication. Her research uses laboratory-based studies to evaluate the impact of products and their marketing and/or communication on product perceptions, attention, use behaviors, and biomarkers of exposure. Currently, Dr. Mercincavage is conducting a randomized trial evaluating the harm reduction potential of cigarettes with charcoal filters, and an eye-tracking study of attention in retail environments.
