A note from the Director:

The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (INTS) is a leading research institute dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of nicotine and tobacco use, their health impacts, and strategies to reduce tobacco-related harm. Our work spans a broad spectrum of disciplines, including behavioral science, epidemiology, computational modeling, policy research, and clinical interventions.

Since our founding, INTS has grown into a vibrant hub for tobacco and nicotine research, bringing together experts from across Rutgers University and beyond. We have successfully built a collaborative network of investigators and trainees committed to addressing one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time. Our research portfolio includes studies on a variety of tobacco and nicotine products across diverse populations employing multiple methods and strategies.

INTS is home to several specialized research programs and initiatives, including efforts focused on regulatory science, rapid surveillance, tobacco law and policy, tobacco dependence treatment, and more. We work closely with local, state, and national partners, as well as federal agencies, to inform evidence-based policies and interventions that protect public health.

Our mission is deeply translational: we aim to generate knowledge that leads to real-world impact—reducing tobacco-related disease and death, improving treatment outcomes, and shaping policies that promote health equity. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our groundbreaking research and the ways we are working to create a healthier future, free from the harms of tobacco.
